God and Amputees

Atheists often demand that God perform a miracle to demonstrate that he exists, as if reading about miracles that happened two thousand years ago in a far away place in books written by new recruits to a fresh cult was insufficient proof.

So how about all Christians getting together and praying for one simple miracle that could not be achieved by any other means? An excellent idea. But what miracle?

The agony of choice.

The precedent in the Bible is clear. Jesus caused the resurrection of Lazarus. One dead man raised to be alive. Just the one. Just one that was handy as he was passing that way. He didn't seek out anybody especially worthy to bring back to life such as a great man, a king or the father of twelve starving children. No. He raised from the dead the brother of the woman he was staying with.

So we need not worry if we don't choose the single most valuable or worthy miracle, we have divine precedent that it's fine to do a great miracle as a one-off and choose somebody who is handy where the expectant crowds are gathered rather than picking on somebody who is especially worthy of the blessing.

What should the miracle be? Curing the sick is easy. It's common place. It happens all the time and spontaneous cures can be dismissed as random and meaningless, sick people get better everyday and you can't move for people telling you the story of how doctors had given them up for dead.

Raising the dead? People will see it as a magic trick, an imposter or a hoax. No. There is one real miracle that really would shock the world and confound all the sceptics, so that has to be the one to pray for. No faith healer has ever before caused the spontaneous regrowing of an amputated limb. So what limb should God restore through the power of Jesus? Clearly there is but one answer. Give Heather her leg back. It's obvious. It is the most famous missing limb since Long John Silver.

Pray that Jesus Christ in his wisdom and power

heals Heather Mills

and gives her back her leg, flesh and bone.

Restore this limb we cry in Jesus' name!

Pray now.

Pray hard.

Have faith in the power of Jesus!

When Heather shows the world her newly restored leg everybody around the world will know what the power of Jesus can really do. Amen.

In Jesus' Name
