I am interested in the fascinating topic of cyberwhores. These are women, or more likely simply automated messages sent in the name of women, who accost men via email and IM services.

Here is a very good example of the phenomena:-
There are some really good touches here. I like the way she uses an email address that looks like a work address, this is the second version I have received, in the first version she was coming from MSIfurnishLtd@aol.com, all the other details were the same. Strange woman, seems to get sacked a lot, I wonder why? Also the telephone number was different, but still a UK premium rate number. I like the way she says she is 26, young enough to be attractive but far more believable than 18, and she uses the name Judith, which is so much more credible than Candy or Sadie or other obviously faked porn-star style name. She seems to be medium-smart, the spelling is good but not perfect and she makes out that she doesn't fully understand what a firewall is. She says she lives nearby, that's handy isn't it? But not very specific. The email address she gives out (not the one she tells you not to use) is bodged, it isn't real, there is no @ in it. The only thing to do is to look up her pictures via a premium rate telephone line. I wonder if by any chance the modem at the other end is set to do a very pedestrian bit rate while the phone charges rack up? Or is that me being excessively cynical?
Other cyberwhores accost me on ICQ and AOL instant messaging. I missed you, come and see my webcam. and that sort of thing. Some of these lead to porn sites, some lead to sites that seem to get you to download a lot of relatively innocuous pictures and then keep suggesting that it might be a good idea to use this special program they offer in order to clean up your computer of the telltale evidence of your looking for other women. Nasty and cynical the lot of them. Some try to engage the victims in conversation, they may actually be real women, who knows? If a total stranger accosts me on instant messaging I ask them why they picked on me, what gave them the idea that I would a good person to talk to. If they can't give a good answer to that then they don't deserve attention, whether they are lonely real women or cyberwhores. Having said that, if any real lonely people want to IM me feel free, if you tell me that you have seen my website then I will know you are interested in me as a person, and not just as a customer. If you come across some cyberwhore scams paste them into an email and let me see them. |
