Caffeine: The Unmissable Flavour of Coffee?

Caffeine: The unmissable flavour of Coffee?

What does caffeine taste like? If you are to believe the coffee merchants who will sell you decaffeinated coffee caffeine doesn't taste of anything. How could it have a taste and yet you still be able to drink decaffeinated coffee and not notice the difference? They don't add artificial caffeine flavours to it, do they? Can they really insult your intelligence and your taste buds with the idea that they can remove something that has a distinctive taste and you not be able to tell that they have done it? And do you still respect them in the morning?

On the bottle of “stimulant drink” I have just drunk caffeine is labeled as one of the flavourings. So it does have a taste. How can they sell something as a flavouring if it doesn't have a flavour?

Ingredients

Carbonated water, citric acid, Taurine (0.4%), Glucuronolactone (0.2%), Acidity Regulator (Trisodium Citrate), Flavourings (including caffeine), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame K,) Colours yada yada yada

If there's more flavourings in it than sweeteners that's quite a lot of flavour. So why don't I know what caffeine tastes like?

My head's buzzing. It must be the caffeine.
