UA Calendar(Universal Atheist Calendar puts history in august perspective) |

What do you expect from a calendar? I mean a time calendar like a Jewish, Christian, Islamic, or a Chinese calendar.
Take for instance, the year 2002. What does this figure mean to you? Obviously it means that Moses was born in 2370 BC (4372 years ago), Jesus was born 2002 years ago, and Mohammed was born in 570 AD (1432 years ago). Now try to relate the birth of Christ, Moses, or Mohammed to the birth of our species, Homo sapiens, which occurred sometime probably more than 200,000 years ago. Based on the Christian calendar, you may say that Christ was born probably around 198,000 years after the birth of the very first Homo sapiens or that the very first Homo sapiens were born probably around 198,000 BC.

All we need is a reference point in order to make sense out of historical/cosmological events in terms of time. We need to understand the age of an event compared with our present time. Having a perception of time is important because without it you don’t know who you are and where you come from. Imagine the beginning of time, the famous Big Bang. The universe was born somewhere between 12 and 15 billion years ago, and that was the birth of time. Now by knowing this, try then to imagine the first Homo sapiens stepping on Earth around 200,000 years ago, Christ being born 2002 years ago, and you being born 60 years ago. Now you have a perception of time. Now you can see how young our species is; how recently Christ was born. Compared to the age of our universe, your age is not even a figure. Now look at your body I mean, what makes up your flesh and what you are. In fact, a number of elements such as carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and a few more got together and made your organic body. Now look at your brain, the same organic material which gives rise to your mind, consciousness and who you are. As you know, all the elements in the universe were evolved from the mother element hydrogen. And hydrogen was born between 12 and 15 billion years ago due to the action of the Big Bang. Now let’s make sense out of all this information. The universal atheist calendar tells us when and how time started. It tells us where we stand in the universe in terms of time and space. It reminds us how young our civilization is and it gives us a sense of respect for who and what we are. It shows us that it took us 15 billion years to get to where we are now. And nicely but seriously, tells us that we’d better not take life for granted on Earth. It also tells us that it took some billion years for matter to become conscious in the form of a human brain which can sustain its consciousness only for a very short period of time before it goes back to its unconscious state. The UA calendar reveals the fact that life is short and precious, so we have no time for hatred, atrocities, crusades, jihads, and suicide bombing. It tells us that, since life is too short, we cannot waste it by killing each other. The UAcalendar gently reminds us that we have no choice other than to love each other in order to get the best out of life. UA calendar is a reminder of who and what we are. Now, it’s your turn to tell us what your calendar Jewish, Christian, Islamic, or Chinese calendar reminds us of. |
