Confession (another religious abuse)
Now make confession to the LORD , the
God of your fathers, and do his will. Separate yourselves from
the peoples around you and from your foreign wives."
Ezra 10:11, The Holy Bible
What is the Catholic sacrament of Confession all about? Is it
about helping individuals in a psychotherapeutic method to achieve
a better state of mind and psyche for the confessor? Or is it
about the authority of the church to keep up with the ongoing
lucrative business, the business of psychological mortification
and abuse?
Isn’t it true that God is omniscient, meaning that He or
She knows everything? The contradiction between the whole concept
of Catholic confession with a priest and its chief divine principle,
God’s omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence, is as
clear as crystal. But still, millions of Catholics around the
world are blind enough not to see this fundamental contradiction.
A friend of mine who was born Catholic, came upon this manifest
contradiction while he was just a child. At the age of eight,
he questioned himself that If God knows everything, then why should
one articulate the whole details of his or her sins and go through
the process of confession with a priest? "Surely
the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too
dull to hear.",
Isaiah 59:1. " whenever our hearts condemn us. For God
is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. " 1
John 3:20. God already knows all about our sins. All we need
to do is to say the following: "God! I know that you know
everything. So, forgive me!" No need for a priest after
all.
it is amazing that an eight-year old child can question the whole
sacrament of confession in Catholicism to realize that the confessional
booths in churches are nothing except an abusing place where a
man invades another man’s or woman’s privacy to damage
his or her human psyche.
The psychological damage due to the sense of guilt created by
the process of confession and the lack of proper psychological/therapeutic
attention and treatment after confession, makes the ground for
a real psychological mutilation and abuse.
I never forget the sense of guilt and its burden on my entire
conscious mind and conscientious in my early teenage-hood when
I was failing God a few times a day due to the natural action
of masturbation. I was told that masturbation was a house of sin
wherein God would burn me in hell for eternal life, if I would
enter the house. This was an obvious psychological and religious
abuse upon an innocent boy whose only guilt was having a normal
and healthy body-function, masturbation.
The Catholic sacrament of confession is nothing except a very
wrong religious practice like the rest of the whole organization
of any religion in general. If you are a Catholic and you are
going through confession with a priest rather than a psychotherapist,
then think about it twice before you allow a shaman to remove
your cancerous tumor, if you have any tumor to begin with.
The real confession should be mandatory, in a psychotherapeutic
setting, for those priests who commit sexual abuse. These priests
are the priority for confession than anybody else. Religion has
brought a few good things around our lives compared to the amount
of damage that it has done. It is time to wake up and see the
reality of our world and civilization where we are all from an
honorable species called Homo sapiens, the wise man. Let’s
earn the name of our species by becoming wise.
Don’t you think that Catholic apologetics should be about
presenting the true claims of Catholicism, where they conflict
with its own fundamental principles like any other religion? What
do you say?
