World Quiz League

2007-2008 Season

Quiz Two

You can join in at any time. Each quiz is a stand-alone contest with a winner. Even if you participate in the league you are not unduly tied down as the league ranks players by the highest three scores in the most recent five quizzes, which means if you miss one, or even two, you can still be competitive.

This quiz seems to be especially mean. If you can get any right at all you are doing well. These are stinkers!

My dictionary falls open, between a slightly bigger version of the west's favourite instrument of torture and a view (especially through Windows) I find: with great force; an instrument of torture with a long spike; a shrew; masculine strength; moral excellence; guts; thick and gluey and a nobleman.

Something else caught my eye that might be worth dodging away from.

Before the Hammered Dulcimer World Championships last week, commentators predicted that the winners (first, second, and third place) would be as follows:

Commentator #1: Amy will not win first place, nor Ben second place.
Commentator #2: Cate's performance will put her in the top three, but Dan won't win at all.
Commentator #3: Dan and Elizabeth will both place in the top three.
Commentator #4: Dan will not take second place, nor Elizabeth third place.
Commentator #5: Amy will place somewhere in the top three, but Cate won't.

But every prediction turned out to be wrong! Who were the three winners and how did each place?
