Where would she have got to if she had followed the red brick road?
Town
Square.
Follow the red brick road
Follow the red brick road
Follow follow follow follow
follow the red brick road
The writer of this song, just newly
hired, unknowingly wrote of the "red brick" road which
can also be seen on the ground at the beginning of the "yellow
brick road" swirl. As Dorothy tried to follow it though,
she found herself heading back to Town Square. The Munchkins
seeing her return then began singing the entire scene over.
The director and his crew of 75 were unable to stop them
for 45 min and the writer not only ended up losing his
pay, he actually owed the production company $4500 in lost
cost time, of which between the years 1939 and 1945, just
before his untimely death, he had only paid back $3245.23 |

Mmmm, OK, but I prefer this one:
According to Oz expert James R. Whitcomb, In
L. Frank Baum's books, the Land of Oz was divided into
four quadrants and each was designated a particular color.
Quadling Country is red. Glinda the Good was the ruler
of the Quadlings. As her bubble floats away from Munchkinland
in the film, it appears to be following the red brick road.
Therefore, the road most likely leads back to her homeland, Quadling
Country. |

Which ties in with this:
|
In L. Frank Baum's Oz series the Land of
Oz was divided into four quadrants and each was designated a particular
color:
Winkie Country = Yellow,
Gillikin Country = Purple,
Munchkin Country = Blue
and Quadling Country = Red.
Glinda the Good was the ruler of the Quadlings.
As her bubble floats away from Munchkinland in the 1939 film, it
appears to be following the red brick road. Therefore, the red brick
road most likely leads back to Glinda's homeland.

Which word is the odd one out, and why?
Mortise
Muff
Mortar
Harbour
Jetty
Socket
|
They are all female shapes except the jetty, which
is a proud, jutting male shape. The other objects accept, crave
for, the insertion of an object. A socket demands a plug, a mortar
wants a good firm pestle, a mortise is made for a tenon
and everybody knows about the joys of thrusting a hand into a
warm muff.

What was so fantastic about the rug of the man who would be King?
Why were there only two bears sheltering in Shrek's swamp? If you watch
carefully you see the explanation, Lord Farquaad, who wanted to be the
perfect King of the perfect kingdom, had used mother bear as a bedside
rug. A talking bear makes a fantastic rug, don't you think?
Demar earned a point with Sean Connery's $20,000 wig for the film Hunt
for Red October, that is a fantastic price for a rug, and Sean did
star as The Man Who Would be King.
Alan tries the flying carpet in Aladdin, which also fits the question
reasonably well.

What has Eric and his friend got to do, even if they don't do anything
else again?
|
Eric Burdon, lead singer with The Animals,
sang
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place 'cause girl,
there's a better life for me and you
In their No 2 charting 1965 hit single, "We
Gotta Get Out of This Place"

What is this?

Obviously a carrier aircraft. I think it
may be a Chance-Vought F4U-4 Corsair, designed by Rex Beisel & Igor
Sikorsky. BUT this has three prop blades, and the one in the quiz
has four. However, I don't know whether the extra prop blade was
an optional extra, like alloy wheels or a sunroof. Who knows? Anyway,
it's my best guess...

Chance Vought F4U Corsair The F4U Corsair
had a top speed of 415 mph, a sea-level climb rate of 3,120 ft/min
and a service ceiling of 37,000 ft. The first carrier trials were
carried out in September 1942 aboard the USS Sangamon.

An old school dictionary falls open. Between an official of the Mogul
Empire and something too small to be taken into account I find a celestial
low point, sleep inducing, a feeling of sickness and a wizard. Also on
that page I found the last place many people will be found. Where is that?
|
Between Nabob and negligible*, you
found nadir, narcotic, nausea, and necromancer. Also on the page,
necropolis.
* You said "something too small",
which implies a noun, but negligible is an adjective; I'm being
cheeky and assuming that's your mistake, not mine.

Communists.
Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy (1908 -1957)
He was obsessed with saving the USA, from the commie, left-wing
pinkos under the beds and in particular the American entertainment
industry. McCarthy referred to his investigation of communism, as
like skunk hunting.
Digging out a skunk, he stated,
is a dirty, smelly business. No one wants to be near you when
you're done - but someone's got to do it.

Anthropological
Automobile ?
|
Accounting, Anthropological, and Automobile
are all part of the names of organizations that begin with the word
'American' and end with 'Association', so they all form the acronym
AAA. Airlines is the odd word out in the American sense, but there
is a AAA associated with the African Airlines Association.

Berkshire Pig Smallicombe Stonebow 4th 'Beauty'
Bred by Ian & Maggie Todd of Colyton
Devon This is one of the oldest breeds around. It was developed
in the Shire of Berks, England. A mature Berkshire is medium size,
smooth and solid. They are characteristically black with white feet,
and a splash of white on the face. Their dished face makes them
look like somewhat of a pug dog. The snout is also medium length,
and the ears are erect (as opposed to flopped). The flesh is noted
for its exceptional flavour and texture.

My mother breeds Berkshires, I can confirm that the judges got it right,
Beauty here is an excellent pig, showing all the best features of the
breed. The skin is mostly white, the black comes from their bristles,
so they produce a white carcass and the combination of the breed characteristics
and the non-intensive husbandry that usually goes with rare breed status
combine to produce very tasty pork.
