A famous guitarist jots down a musical term on his song sheet. Another
famous guitarist, viewing it upside down, misreads it and assumes it's
meant to be a title of the song. The misread title sticks. What is the
song and who are the two guitarists?
Pete Mitchell
|
The song is Cream's "Badge". The two guitarists
are George Harrison and Eric Clapton This track was written by Clapton
and Harrison. Harrison was transcribing the song and Clapton, reading
it upside down, misread the musical term "bridge" as "badge" and
the name stuck.

Where did Albert Einstein get lost in 1985?
|
America. The Albert Einstein in question
is better known by his acting name, Albert Brooks, who starred in
and directed the 1985 film "Lost in America". You may also know
his brother Bob Einstein, better known as not particularly successful
stuntman "Super Dave Osborne".

Now come off it Mr Feld, you can't convince me you need that vehicle
in order to perform your particular service. I'll have to disallow that
expense.
OK, it probably didn't actually happen like that.
Who can't you fool?
|
You can't fool the Children of the Revolution.
I drive a (non-tax-deductible) Rolls-Royce
'Cause it's good for my voice.
Marc Bolan's real name was Feld. (The name
'Bolan', by the way, was arrived at as a contraction of 'Bob Dylan'.).

|
You can't fool the children of the revolution is the hookline
of Children of the Revolution (number 2 in the UK chart in 1972)
by T. Rex, fronted by Marc Bolan, who also wrote the lyrics. Marc Bolan
changed his name from Mark Feld. So you can't fool the children of the
revolution, or Her Majesty's Inspector
of Taxes.

Who heroically lost 264 men by engaging an enemy of approximately
3,000 American militia men armed with superior state-of-the-art weaponry?
|
Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer
(who finished last in his class at the U.S. Military Academy), at
the battle of Greasy Grass (which is what the Lakota call the Battle
of Little Bighorn).
Don
Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer The reference
is to Custer's "Last Stand" at the Battle of Little Big Horn. Excerpted
from http://www.history-magazine.com/bighorn.html:
"When Captain Reno's battalion engaged
the Indians across the river, Custer received intelligence that
the Indians were escaping towards the other end of the valley
and rode his battalion hard to head them off. Approaching the
other end of the Indian village on the banks of the Little Big
Horn, Custer's 264 troopers ran headlong into Crazy Horse and
Sitting Bull's forces, estimated at 3,000 strong.
Sitting Bull himself did not fight but
directed the Indian forces, many of whom were equipped with repeating
Winchesters while the Seventh Cavalry troopers only had single
shot carbines. The Indian forces charged head on and then flanked
Custer's battalion and slaughtered them to a man."

In my trusty old dictionary between a
sweet fluid and very large I find a fee for professional services, to
deceive, a pleasant sounding pipe, breasts, a Blytonesque rebuke, a large source
of high quality protein, a vigorous punishment, a cry of adoration, a
good place to buy a drink, a dish of many ingredients, an unwelcome visitor
and an uproar of pursuit.
There are also quite a few places you might wake up, some happily, some
not so, how many can you find?
Between honey and huge I find Honorarium Hoodwink Hookah Hooters Horrid
Horse Horsewhip Hosanna Hostelry Hotchpotch Housebreaker Hue (and Cry)
Places to wake up included the obvious house, hotel, hostel, hospital
and hospice and the less obvious 'hood, hovercraft and Huddersfield.
The beauty of the dictionary game is it allows people to make minor mistakes
and to really show off as well, which enables me to split players on the
same score.

Correct, Paddington is a railway station like the rest, but it does not
feature on the London based British Monopoly board.
For a smartarse bonus can anybody tell me how many different regular
versions of the Monopoly board there are?
