Who links Mike Stivic to the Member of Parliament for Sedgefield?

Rob Reiner and Tony Blair are both Martians - Mark

Anthony "Tony" Booth

Explanation: Booth is the father-in-law to Tony Blair, current British Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Sedgefield since 1983. Booth was in the British sitcom "Till Death Us Do Part", on which the American show "All in the Family" was based. He played the boyfriend, Mike, on which the character Michael Stivic, played by Rob Reiner, was based.

Other tidbits uncovered during the search: Josh Nevada provides an on-line list of Martians who have infiltrated Earth and are living among us. According to this list, found at http://www.geocities.com/martiansinfiltratedonearth/, both Rob Reiner and Tony Blair are actually Martians. Anthony Booth is the star and subject of the TV movie "When Pat Phoenix Met Tony Booth". Rob Reiner directed "When Harry Met Sally".

Tony Blair's father-in-law, Tony Booth, played Mike in "Till Death Us Do Part". So I suppose strictly, the answer to "who links them" is Cherie Blair.

Which two of the world's harshest, driest places face west across a cold ocean that keeps its cloud and rain to itself?

Atatcama Desert (On the West coast of South America) and Namib Desert (Namibia)

Peter Smyth

This was a poor question as many deserts fit that description to some degree although the Atacama and Namib (in that order) are the best examples for being the driest and harshest places on the planet yet so close to an ocean which is often shrouded in cloud. There are parts of the Atacama that have not received any rainfall in four centuries.

Who lives at the intersection of Croesus and Mammon?

Mr. Burns (Full Name: Charles Montgomery Burns) in the TV show, "The Simpsons", whose mansion is located at the corner of Croesus and Mammon. Croesus was the last king of Lydia (560 - 546 BC) known for his great wealth. By extension, it means any rich man. Mammon, derived from the classical Hebrew word for personal wealth, came to be used as a name for a postulated god of greed (or personification of greed) in medieval literature. Evidently Burns got to name those streets himself.

Lexus, Gap, Nokia, Reebok, American Express, Guinness

Black and Decker, Toyota, Texaco, AT&T, Pizza Hut

Link these two lists with a cola and a newspaper.

Pepsi, USA Today (products placed in "Minority Report" and "Back to the Future II")

Kepano

Lexus, Gap, Nokia, Reebok, American Express and Guinness featured as product placements (among many others) in the Spielberg movie "Minority Report". Black and Decker, Toyota, Texaco, AT&T and Pizza Hut (again among many others) featured in the movie "Back to the Future II". There were two other brands, which featured as product placements in both movies, Pepsi, the cola and USA Today, the newspaper. These two provide the link between the two lists.

What links an ancient sea, the daughters of Adam, a river through the dreaming spires and a Normandy beach?

Several players got part of the way there. The easist one is the river through the dreaming spires, dreaming spires refers to Oxford. The river through Oxford is known as the Thames or Isis (I'm not sure if this is a quantum effect or just some sort of double representation). Isis was the sister and bride of Osiris (and mother as well, the Egyptians liked to keep it in the family). Juno, one of the Normandy beaches involved in the D Day landings, was the sister and bride of Jupiter.

One of the great seas/oceans of the ancient Earth was named Tethys, a wide east-west trending ocean that separated Laurasia from Gondwanaland from Triassic to early Tertiary times. Tethys was the daughter of Gaia and Uranus. She was the bride of her brother, Oceanus.

And the daughters of Adam? Where did Cain find his wife? I think we can work it out.

All are mythological characters who married their brothers.

In my trusty dictionary between a Hindu handkerchief and a peculiarly Aussie term of endearment I find a brigand, an oatcake, a church notice, African farming people, an outer defensive position, a diminutive crustacean and a fabulous reptile.
Can you find five trades or occupations on these pages?

banderillero, bandmaster, bandsman, banian, banjoist, banker, bantamweight, barber, bard, bargeman, baritone, barkeep, bartender, barker, barman, barmaid, barnstormer, barrister, baseman, bassist, basso

Kepano

Well done to new player Pete Mitchell. Is he a smartarse or a maverick? Time will tell. He tops the list with seven points and lots of smartarse bonuses for very full and precise answers. Also scoring seven points were Alan and Kepano. On six came Venky and Graybags. Mark, Vicky and Peter Smyth scored five.

I must acknowledge that question 2 was not my idea, it was sent in by email after quiz 19 but I have forgotten who sent it and my old email is inaccessible due to a hard drive failure. So, whoever sent it in thank you for one of the best questions in a long time.
